Ponche Mexicano

One of the things I really look forward to during this season is Ponche Mexicano!!! A hot and fruity mixture so delicious that my mom usually makes a whole pot just for me ;) It brings back memories of my childhood when I used to go the posadas in México!! I'm not really good with recipes but I thought a would share how I make ponche with you guys... All the quantities aren't really "exact", I just put in as much as I feel is right!

Ingredients:

- 1.5 gallons of water
- 4 apples
- 4 cinnamon sticks
- 1 piloncillo or brown sugar will do!
- 1/2 lb of tejocotes (Crataegus mexicana) They're usually very expensive around this time so I use just a few to get the flavor.
- 3-4 tamarindos
- 1 lb of guavas ( I freeze when they're in season)
- About a feet long piece of sugar cane peeled and cut in small pieces. I've also seen bags of peeled caña at some latino markets.

The preparation is super easy! Simply wash and slice all of your fruits and bring all the ingredients to boil. Serve warm. For the grown ups, you can add a piquete of tequila or rum! Enjoy with a warm buñuelo or pan dulce!
