Rorschach

This week has barely started and I already want it to end, so many things to do!! Also, it feels like summer here in So Cali (90 degrees!!) and hot weather makes me want to stay home and eat ice cream all day =]
Anyway, I wanted to show you this little felt plush I made for the Rorschach in my life. My boyfriend loves Watchmen but I couldn’t find anything at the stores, so I hoped he really liked this one. I was inspired by p1nkninja’s Rorschach but didn’t have the time to make it as awesome as hers!! I used the chibi plush tutorial by Lori-La-Tortuga and made the hat and coat without a pattern. I googled the mask and made the sign out of a flash card.

Esta semana apenas ha empezado y yo ya quiero que termine, es que ¡hay tantas cosas que hacer! Además el clima del sur de California ha estado de verano, y con este calorcito lo único que quiero hacer es quedarme en casita comiendo helado =]
Pero bueno, les quería mostrar este muñequito de fieltro que he hecho para el Rorschach en mi vida. A mi novio le encanta Watchmen, pero como no pude encontrar nada que me gustara decidí hacerle este (espero que le haya gustado.) Me he inspirado en el Rorschach creado por p1nkninja, por no tuve tiempo para hacerlo tan trabajado y genial como el de ella. Utilice el tutorial de Lori-La-Tortuga, y el sombrero y la ropa los hice sin molde. La forma de la mascara la encontré en google, y el cartel esta hecho de cartulina.

Fabric/ Telas

We had a short trip to Tijuana, Mexico this weekend and I bought these beautiful and colorful fabrics. They are the type of fabric used for some traditional Mexican clothing, and they make me really happy!
Now the million dollar question, what am I going to do with them?

Este fin de semana fuimos a Tijuana, México y encontré estas hermosas telas. Son el tipo de telas que se utilizan para ciertos trajes típicos mexicanos.
¡Los colores me hacen sonreír!

Sewing Book/ Costurero

Today was my last day of spring break =[
And even though I was supposed to go back to the books and study, I honestly didn’t even touch one of them. This means I’m going to have extra work in the next few weeks, but I just needed to rest.
Anyway, today I realized something was missing in my project box: a sewing book!
And of course, I turned to my old friend Martha Stewart for inspiration!

So I followed Martha’s tutorial. I just made mine a little bit longer, and made a page for my scissors and other one for the threads… oh, and I embroidered my initials and a little heart in the cover…. I love how the black looks on pink! (Sorry for the bad photos, I need a new camera!)

Hoy ha sido mi último día de vacaciones de primavera =[
Y aunque tenía que haber aprovechado este descanso para estudiar, la verdad es que no toque ningún libro en toda esta semana. Esto significa que voy a tener que trabajar mas las próximas semanas… ¡pero necesitaba descansar!
Bueno, hoy me di cuenta que faltaba algo en mi caja de proyectos: ¡un costurero! Así que visite a mi querida amiga Martha Stewart para inspirarme un poco.

Seguí las instrucciones de Martha, pero hice mi estuche un poco mas grande además de agregarle un espacio para mis tijeras y para mis hilos. ¡Oh! Y también le borde mis iniciales y un pequeño corazón en el frente. ¡Me encanta como se ve el negro sobre el rosa! (Perdón por las fotos tan malas, ¡necesito una cámara nueva!)

Book of the month/ Libro del mes

April: The Witch of Portobello by Paulo Coelho

I woke up today and realized that a new month had started and I hadn’t finish March’s 600 page book! So I stayed in bed for about three hours and a half, reading the last hundred pages, and I can now talk to you about this month’s book.
I chose to read something by Paulo Coelho because his books always seem to be there for me when I need them the most. It’s hard to explain, but I always find them inspiring, helpful, and hopeful- just what I need right now.

In “The Witch of Portobello” several people tell the story of Athena, a woman outside of the norm that touches other people’s lives as she tries to find herself and her birth mother. Each person has a different perspective of Athena, and they tell us her story from the outside for us to connect and understand like the pieces of a puzzle. What I like about Paulo Coelho’s books is that most of the time he has a strong woman as the main character, as well as the spiritualism that is always inspiring. I have heard mixed reviews about this book, some say it is Coelho’s worst novel while others say it is as good as his other masterpieces… so we’ll see.

Abril: La Bruja de Portobello por Paulo Coelho

Al despertarme el día de hoy, me di cuenta que un nuevo mes había comenzado y aun no había terminado de leer mi libro (de 600 páginas) de Marzo. Así que me quede en cama por tres horas y media y leí las ultimas cien paginas… Y ahora les puedo hablar tranquilamente del libro de este mes.
He elegido algo de Paulo Coelho, ya que sus libros parecen siempre estar ahí cuando mas los necesito. Es difícil de explicar pero siempre encuentro en sus novelas inspiración, ayuda, y esperanza- justo lo que necesito ahora.

La Bruja de Portobello cuenta la historia de Athena, una mujer fuera de las normas sociales que toca la vida de varias personas al intentar encontrarse a si misma y a su madre verdadera. Y son esas personas, espectadoras de la vida de Athena, quienes nos relatan la historia de este personaje todos con una perspectiva diferente. Lo que me gusta de los libros de Coelho es que casi siempre tiene como personaje principal a una mujer fuerte, además de esa espiritualidad que siempre inspira. He escuchado varios comentarios sobre este libro. Algunos me dicen que es lo peor de Coelho y otros que es tan bueno como lo demás que ha escrito. Así que ya veremos.

Mafalda

I’m not a fan of comic books, except for one: Mafalda!
I grew up reading the Mafalda comic books. It tells the story of a little Argentinean girl, smarter than most adults around her, and more concerned about the world and political issues than playing with toys. She is my "hero", and even now I look back at her stories. I remember that my dad bought me the whole comic book collection and I would read them over and over again. I don’t know what ever happened to them though.
Anyway, I found these videos on youtube and the little picture on google. I think that only the first video has English subtitles.

Yo no soy fanática de las tiras cómicas, excepto por una: ¡Mafalda!
Crecí leyendo los libros de Mafalda, que cuentan la historia de una niña argentina mas inteligente que los adultos que la rodean, y mas preocupada por el mundo y por las situaciones políticas que por los juegos infantiles. Mafalda ha llegado a ser mi "heroe" y todavía me inspiran sus historias. Recuerdo que mi papá me compró toda la colección de Mafalda, aunque no se que paso con los libros.
De cualquier manera, encontré estos videos en youtube, ¡y no he parado de verlos!
